The worry with "don't worry, I will call you when I get there..."
We have all said it, “don't worry, I will call you when I get there”.
We have all tried to put the minds of others at rest that yes we can look after ourselves in the big bad world we live in. You don’t need to worry about me, I will even call you when I get there to prove I am Ok.
Yes, if you get there (and remember) you might send a message confirming you are safe and sound.
But, what if you just forget to check in? What if your phone runs out of battery? What if you get held up along the way?
What if you don’t get there at all? What if you really need help?
With all these 'what ifs' is saying “don’t worry I will call you when I get there” solving anything meaningful at all?
Say you are driving to another town for business, you text ahead to your manager saying “I am leaving now, will be at the motel at 7pm”. Your manager is happy to know what you are up to and when to check up on you.
You have done the right thing, someone knows where you are going and when you will be there, but at 7pm what actually happens? Will both of you remember to check in?
The answer is nothing, at 7pm nothing will happen.
Nothing will remind you that you were meant to tell someone you were there. Nothing will remind your manager you were meant to be there by now. No alarm will sound, no beacon will start flashing on a map somewhere. You have done the right thing, but nothing will happen.
GetHomeSafe was born of this problem, that at your safety check in time nothing actually happens, and it really should.
In this day and age of smart phones and clever people the most basic of elements of looking after one another still has this huge fault that at the time when you told someone you should be safe nothing actually happens.
We have built into the GetHomeSafe Safety apps reminders for both yourself and for your points of contact so no one forgets your safety check in time.
So next time you plan on heading somewhere or doing something and you want to check in safely, for the peace of mind of either yourself or for those who care about you don’t say “I will call you when I get there” use GetHomeSafe and something will actually happen at your check-in time.
